More than 1 million people need help because they live in Mexican regions still underwater, officials said. Laura Gurza, general coordinator of Civil Protection of the Interior Ministry, said in an interview with El Universal that the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Chiapas are in a state of crisis. The Ministry of the Interior reported there are seven states with 28 open declarations of emergency to support 1,165,000 thousand victims in 372 municipalities affected by the rainy season. The official said three thousand people in Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca, have been evicted because the hill that broke away Sept. 28 has been “sliding several inches in a few hours” and warned that more areas are at risk.
