Denunciation of the Disappearance of Gerardo Gonzalez Miranda
Faced with the disappearance of our colleague and friend Gerardo Gonzalez Miranda, creator of various projects, and artistic and cultural spaces in Merida and San Cristobal, editor of independent free media TeleMaiz, supporter of La Otra Campaña and defender of the human rights of children working in San Cristobal, we urge the appropriate authorities to expedite investigations to find his whereabouts.
On Sunday January 30 he left his home to go to work at the cultural space in his charge. He was wearing a red and black striped tshirt, blue pants with gray stripes and gray tennis shoes.
On Monday 31 he still hadn’t come home, and according to his co-workers he did not go to work. We tried to communicate via phone, but received no reply.
Receiving no response, which is very strange because of the punctuality and reliability of Gerardo, two of his colleagues decided to act, and went to his cultural space, where they found all his personal belongings.
Between 1st and 2nd February we took on the task of searching hospitals and police stations, and immigration, without result.
In the days following, a complaint about his disappearance was lodged – prosecution record No. 318/AL54-T2/2011 – but we have not had any answers yet.
Family, friends and colleagues are very concerned about his unexplained disappearance. We suffer the uncertainty of not knowing his fate, especially because of national insecurity, and lack of confidence in the state and its agencies.
His absence is increasingly disturbing and we are more concerned for his well-being by the minute …
We therefore ask you in solidarity to disseminate this information to spread further the search for him.
Greetings in Solidarity
